Journalists play key role in ensuring Govt’s welfare schemes reach common people: FM Pranajit Singha Roy on National Press Day

Tripura along with the rest of the nation observed National Press Day on Thursday. The state finance minister Pranajit Singha Roy has inaugurated the state level function of the National Press Day organised here at Agartala Rabindra Bhavan.

Addressing the gathering of journalists at the function, the minister Pranajit Singha Roy said that the journalists play a significant role in ensuring that the government’s welfare schemes and developmental programmes reach to all masses.

He said that the government took a series of initiatives for the welfare of the journalists of the state. He said that the government took the initiative in increasing the pension of journalists, health insurance, organizing workshops for journalists, revising the advertising policy and increasing the allocation of money in this sector, improving the Agartala Press Club, giving accreditation to more number of working journalists.

Tripura High Court Justice Arindam Lodh spoke on the occasion and highlighted the purpose and significance of the formation of the Press Council of India.

Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs department Bimbisar Bhattacharjee, Secretary of the ICA Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, Agartala Press Club President Jayanta Bhattacharya, Agartala Press Club Secretary Ramakanta Dey, and others were present in the function.
