Responding to the TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman’s remark on handing over the Pushpavanta Palace (Old Raj Bhavan) in Agartala to a private company for establishing a 5-star hotel, the state tourism minister on Friday said, “There are instances of royal palaces being converted into hotel like the royal palace of Udaipur in Rajasthan so what is wrong with this.”
“Critics of this decision have themselves converted royal properties and heritage sites into wedding venues,” he said, adding that the Pushpavanta Palace undergoes retrofitting, its architectural integrity remains preserved, even if it transforms into a heritage hotel.
Interacting with reporters regarding the issue of handing over the handing over of Pushpavanta Palace in Agartala to a private company for establishing a 5-star hotel, he said that it remains a proposal awaiting the CM's final decision.
He said, “The palace was sold out to the state govt. Therefore, state govt is empowered to do anything with it.”
