Fish production in country doubles in last 10 years: Ministry of Fisheries
The fish production in the country has doubled in the last ten years. According to the Ministry of Fisheries, fish production has increased from 95 lakh tons in 2013-14 to over 184 lakh tonnes in 2023-24.
The Ministry said that India is the second-largest fish-producing country, with around eight percent share in global fish production. It also said that over the past two decades, India’s fisheries sector has witnessed significant growth and transformation. The Union Budget 2025-26 proposed the highest-ever total annual budgetary support of over two thousand 703 crore rupees for the fisheries sector.
