Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday laid the foundation stone for the development of two of Tripura’s most revered religious sites — Maa Kasbeshwari Temple in Kamalasagar and Chaturdasha Devata Bari in Khayerpur — marking a major step towards promoting religious tourism and preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage.
The infrastructure development projects are being funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), with ₹18.78 crore allocated for Maa Kasbeshwari Temple and ₹13.63 crore for Chaturdasha Devata Bari.
Both sites are deeply rooted in Tripura's Sanatan cultural tradition. Maa Kasbeshwari Temple, established by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya near the Bangladesh border, is a significant pilgrimage site. Chaturdasha Devata Bari, founded by Maharaja Krishna Kishore Manikya, is dedicated to Tripura’s unique tradition of worshipping fourteen deities — a central part of the state’s spiritual identity.
Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony held at Kasba, Chief Minister Dr. Saha stressed the government’s commitment to preserving religious heritage while enhancing tourism infrastructure. “These projects will not only attract pilgrims and tourists but also create local employment and support regional development,” he said.
Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Kamalasagar MLA Antara Sarkar Deb, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
The planned upgrades include visitor amenities, improved access roads, landscaping, lighting, and interpretation facilities, aimed at making both sites more accessible and appealing to tourists, while maintaining their sanctity.
