Days after the Mizo National Front (MNF) ended its alliance with the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), the MNF and Congress have staked claim to form the next executive in the 25-member Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) in Lawngtlai district.
The two parties formed a United Legislature Party (ULP) after reaching a post-poll understanding. The ULP elected MNF’s C. Lalsawmzuala as its leader, who has approached Governor Vijay Kumar Singh to form the new council executive.
Under the arrangement, MNF is set to hold the Chief Executive Member and Deputy CEM posts, while Congress will occupy the chairman’s position. The ULP claims a majority of at least 15 members in the council.
