Meghalaya CM Inaugurates Foundation of Rs 7 Crore Integrated AYUSH Hospital

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday has laid the foundation for a new 10-bed Integrated AYUSH Hospital at Merengipara in South West Garo Hills, aimed at boosting healthcare access in remote areas under the National AYUSH Mission.

The hospital, with a budget of Rs 7 crore for the 2025–26 financial year, will create 35 new positions for AYUSH doctors, nurses, and yoga instructors. It will offer inpatient services, addressing the region’s current lack of comprehensive healthcare facilities, which have mostly been limited to outpatient care.

Speaking at the ceremony, CM Sangma said the project reflects the government’s focus on providing quality healthcare that is accessible, dignified, and trustworthy. He added that the hospital will support youth wellness and de-addiction initiatives, contributing to a healthier and more resilient population.

The facility will serve not only Merengipara but also nearby areas, offering holistic and lifestyle-based treatments, with plans to incorporate traditional and indigenous medical knowledge in the future.
