Minister Sushanta Chowdhury Applauds Union Budget’s Focus on Farmers and Defence

Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday lauded the Union Budget 2026-27, calling it a people-oriented plan that prioritizes welfare and development. Addressing farmers in Gandhi Gram, Bamutia constituency, in the presence of Union Minister Tokhan Sahu, Chowdhury highlighted the key initiatives announced by the Narendra Modi-led government.

He particularly pointed out the record increase in the defence budget, which has grown from ₹2.53 lakh crore in 2013-14 to ₹7.84 lakh crore in 2026-27. According to Chowdhury, this historic allocation will enhance the preparedness of the armed forces, support indigenisation, and accelerate technological modernization, strengthening India’s national security.

Chowdhury said the budget demonstrates the government’s dual focus on empowering farmers and fortifying the country’s defence capabilities.
