21 Civilians Freed in Manipur Kidnapping, Vehicles and Phones Still Missing

Twenty-one civilians, including five women and sixteen men, were released after being kidnapped by armed miscreants near Shangkai Kuki Village in Ukhrul district on Wednesday morning. The victims were en route from Ukhrul to Imphal along National Highway 102 when they were taken to an undisclosed location.

The released civilians were received by representatives of Tangkhul civil society organisations and later handed over to their families. However, the kidnappers have yet to return two vehicles — a Maruti Alto and a Baleno — along with the victims’ mobile phones.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand condemned the act, appealing to the perpetrators to uphold humanity and ensure the safe release of all civilians. He assured that the government is taking the matter seriously and directed senior police and administrative officials to remain vigilant and coordinate efforts for the security of residents in the area.
