INS Malvan Joins Indian Navy Fleet
The Indian Navy commissioned INS Malvan, the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) of the Mahe class, at Karwar in Karnataka on Wednesday, marking a major milestone in India’s indigenous warship-building programme.
Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, attended the commissioning ceremony as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he praised the Navy’s efforts towards achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing and highlighted the importance of INS Malvan in strengthening India’s coastal maritime security.
Built by Cochin Shipyard under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, INS Malvan incorporates more than 80 per cent indigenous equipment and technology. The warship is equipped with RBU-6000 rocket launchers, DRDO-developed torpedoes, and a German-Indian sonar suite, enhancing its anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
The Mahe-class vessel is designed to protect India’s coastal waters and strengthen underwater defence capabilities. Its commissioning reflects the country’s growing expertise in indigenous warship construction and reinforces the Indian Navy’s preparedness to safeguard maritime interests.
