Amit Shah Inaugurates Brahmaputra Wing of Assam Raj Bhawan, Launches North East Cyber Forensic Lab

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated the newly constructed Brahmaputra Wing of the Assam Raj Bhawan in Guwahati as part of his two-day visit to the state. The ceremony was attended by Governor Laxmi Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who welcomed the minister at the official residence.

In keeping with traditional customs, Shah offered prayers at the temple inside the Raj Bhawan, performed Gau Pujan (cow worship), and planted a Sindur tree, accompanied by the chanting of Vedic hymns.

Highlighting the Centre’s emphasis on bolstering cyber infrastructure, the Home Minister also virtually inaugurated the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory – North East (NCFL-NE) at the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy in Dergaon. Developed at a cost of ₹45 crore, the lab is equipped with advanced facilities for digital forensics, including mobile, network, media and disk forensics, data recovery from damaged devices, OSINT, and cryptocurrency investigation tools.

The lab will serve as a regional hub, offering training and investigative support to police personnel from all eight northeastern states.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, sharing details on X, said: “Joined Adarniya Griha Mantri Shri @AmitShah ji and Hon’ble Governor Shri @Laxmanacharya54 ji, as Hon’ble Home Minister inaugurated the new Raj Bhavan today and dedicated a host of facilities to bolster internal security.”

As part of his visit, Shah also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple paramilitary infrastructure projects, including a Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) headquarters, a 350-jawan barrack, residential quarters, an official mess, and a 10-bed hospital for Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel at Sonapur. New facilities for the Assam Rifles were also launched.
