In a historic move aimed at transforming India’s agriculture and allied sectors, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched and laid the foundation stones for various development projects worth Rs 42,000 crore. The event, held virtually, was witnessed by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha from the State Agriculture Research Station (SARS) at AD Nagar, Agartala.
The launch was organized to mark the birth anniversaries of Bharat Ratna Jayprakash Narayan and social reformer Nanaji Deshmukh—icons known for their contributions to rural development and social change.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath and other senior officials were also present at the Agartala venue during the virtual event.
Among the flagship initiatives launched were: PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana with an outlay of Rs 24,000 crore and Dalhan Aatmanirbharta Mission with an outlay of Rs 11,440 crore.
These schemes aim to empower farmers across the country by enhancing agricultural productivity, encouraging crop diversification, promoting sustainable farming practices, and facilitating easier access to both long-term and short-term agricultural credit.
The projects will be implemented across 100 selected districts, including North Tripura, focusing on uplifting the rural economy and improving the standard of living of farmers.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said the initiatives would bring a positive transformation to the agri-sector in Tripura. "These schemes reflect the government’s commitment to doubling farmers’ income and ensuring sustainable development in agriculture. Tripura will greatly benefit from this visionary approach,” he stated.
