The 165th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore was observed with solemnity and cultural fervour at Rabindra Kanan in Agartala on Saturday.
The “Prabhati Kabi Pranam” programme, organised by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, began with floral tributes to the poet, playwright, and philosopher whose literary and cultural legacy continues to inspire generations.
Addressing the gathering, Santana Chakma described Tagore as a timeless icon whose ideals remain relevant in contemporary society. She highlighted his contribution to India’s freedom movement, particularly his opposition to the Partition of Bengal and his support for the Swadeshi movement through patriotic writings and songs, including Amar Sonar Bangla.
The minister also drew parallels between Tagore’s vision of rural development and self-reliance and the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat advocated by Narendra Modi.
The programme featured cultural performances by children, creating a vibrant atmosphere during the early morning tribute. Among those present were Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya and other dignitaries.
