Sikkim Legislative Assembly passes Second Supplementary Demands for Grants

The Sikkim Legislative Assembly passed the Second Supplementary Demands for Grants worth Rs. 1,3479.61 lakh for the Financial Year 2023-24 during the Seventh Session (Part IV) of the Tenth Assembly on Friday.

The Second Supplementary Demands for Grants of Rs. 13479.61 lakh, comprising Rs. 3781.59 lakh on Revenue Account and Rs. 9698.02 lakh on Capital Account, was passed by the House to meet the gross additional expenditure of the Government after it was moved by Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang, who is also the Minister-in-Charge of Finance Department during the Financial Business of the session.

The House also passed the Sikkim Appropriation Bill, 2024 (Bill No. 13 of 2024) for the Second Supplementary Demands for Grants, relating to the Financial Year 2023-24, which was also presented and moved by Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang.

Subsequently, Mr Tamang, presented the Vote on Account for the disbursement of salaries and other expenditures for the Financial Year 2024-25 in the House.

The total fund requirement is of the order of Rs 607325.52 lakh, comprising of Rs 480290.35 lakh on Revenue Account and Rs 127035.17 lakh on Capital Account, worked out based on the Budget Estimate for 2023-24 after excluding spill over one-time provisions and taking into account the latest available figures of salary & wages and pension payments. Discussion and voting on the Vote on Account shall be taken up in the next session scheduled on 2nd March.

During the Legislative Business, two new University Bills were introduced in the House by Minister-in-Charge, Education Department, Mr Kunga Nima Lepcha. The discussion and voting on the two Bills introduced in the House today shall be taken up in the next sitting of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly on 2nd March.

Thereafter, nine University Bills and two Amendment Bills introduced by the concerned Ministers-in-Charge during the Seventh Session (Part III) of the Tenth Assembly held on 12th February were passed by the House today.
