Congress in Tripura opposes union budget 2024; says it’s a budget ‘for corporates by corporates’

A large number of opposition Congress party’s frontal wings – Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress took to the streets of capital town of Agartala on Friday to oppose the Union Budget 2024 as proposed by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the lower house of the Parliament.

The protest rally was led by the youth congress president Neel Kamal Saha, who labelled the union budget as ‘Budget of the Corporates by the Corporates and for the Corporates’. The rally was joined by the workers and supporters of the Youth Congress, NSUI, Mahila Congress, and other affiliated groups.

The party workers raised slogans against the union government and burned the copy of the proposed union budget.

“The Union budget, which was proposed soon after the formation of the third tenure of the BJP government, is fundamentally flawed and anti-people,” Saha told reporters. He condemned the allocation of significant funds of Rs 26,000 crore to Bihar and Rs 15,000 crore to Andhra Pradesh and argued that these provisions are intended to secure political support from Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) and N. Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party.

He accused the BJP of crafting the budget to benefit its allies at the expense of other states. “This budget is detrimental to farmers, youths, and the middle class, imposing additional taxes on essential items and exacerbating economic difficulties,” he added.
